Notice the shape and location of the spots
Dry tan edges often point to drought, low humidity, salt buildup, or heat. Dark soft patches are more often associated with wet tissue or root stress, while sharply bleached areas can follow sudden sun exposure.
Check watering and airflow
Confirm that water can drain freely and avoid keeping foliage wet for long periods. Crowded leaves and limited airflow can allow some leaf-spot problems to spread more easily.
Inspect for pests and recent damage
- Look under leaves for insects, webbing, scale-like bumps, or sticky residue.
- Consider recent repotting, cold drafts, cleaning products, or fertilizer contact.
- Use clean tools when removing badly damaged leaves.
